Exploitations in the Midst of Economic Growth

Exploitions to Employer

By: Rev. Jesse Amiel A. Ramoso

It is difficult to detect if the employee abuse their employer to the extent of exploitations. This means, the utilization of another person or group for selfish purpose under in one corporate or company. This always happens I guess, many of the corporate here in the Philippines. This is injustice, and the government did not periodically check up these corporate who abused their employers. Well, if employers does not know their rights provided by our Philippines constitution under in DOLE (department of Labor and Employments) then they failed to challenge their rights. This blog will provide you guidance on your legal rights opinion and suggestions on how you will contest your rights against exploitations.

Recently, I have a counselee telling me about the incident happened in their company. It was their day off and their boss by force call them to report in the office, while she (boss) send other workmates to vacation on the same day. Another incidents, they reduce workers and add loads of job-works with limited time or timetable that is stressful without increasing the salary. The task that was turn over to him was good for (3) three persons with salary that is good for single person. They call this a multi-tasking and talents expressions and threaten them for "firing" from the job if they will not comply. This is somewhat similar to forced labor and abused, that our government tolerated. The proportion of job-loads and salary is not in equal equilibrium "in the salary and bonuses they received". This is also a common abuse in the corporate that our government should take time to examine. Our economy is growing ahead of China, however, we do not feel the increase of the economy, if this abuse of some of the corporations cannot be lifted. Few years ago, many of the corporate in the Philippines made a cost-cutting due to economic downfall in the country. This results many of the workers being fired and turnover the task and maximising some employers to handle the job/task of the fired workers. The outcome was, the employers handle two to three tasks receiving salary good for one task only with minimal increase of salary. Today, we're not in the economic downfall, the corporate who practice this (exploitations) should be punish by our government.

I would also suggest to our employers that they should study their rights and privilege in the corporate provided by our government. provided on our law Labor code Article 83[1], Article 91.1, and Article 91.2. If you are not satisfied with your compensations over your job description, you can also ask the DOLE, but the basic challenge to your employee is to go back to your signing contract of what job descriptions you signed over your salary and privileges from the company.

I would like also to appeal to our brothers and sisters who owns corporate and have many employers that they should practice justice over their employers, giving them right salary over their task.    We should avoid to practice materialisms in the expense of exploiting people by giving them overload task and under salary. We should not take advantage of those who are in need, and we should not make our selves extremely rich at the expense of (stealing the money) rightful salary and privileges to our employer. In practicing this, this is also a worship and giving glory to God. This will also set justice and equality in the company that encourage honesty and love.

I would also appeal to our brothers and sisters who are employed to give glory to God by complying task not because of the boss but for God alone. Do your task honestly, quality and precessions. In this we will help eradicate corruptions not only in the government but also in the corporate. Here is the site for salary system in the Philippines.(2)

I would also suggest that our beloved President PNoy will organise a dialogue with the workers to really examine the salary system over the job and load for our employers. God bless.
