Philippine Christians Voted Gay Marriage By Default
By: Ptr. Jesse Amiel A. Ramoso
Imagine in a few years from now, we Born Again Christians, Pastors including Roman Catholic Priest and any church leaders here in the Philippines officiating GAY MARRIAGE in our respected churches? Yes! You read it right, gay marriages in our churches, and by force will be implemented. What would you feel and what might your reaction is? My initial answer to that might be the same with yours, of coarse a big “NO WAY”! Yes it's a big “NO WAY”! Unfortunately the House Bill 634 is on its way to be approve, they're now on " Second Reading" a few or last readings then it will be a law. Last July the another law "Reproductive Bill 5043" was approved and by next year “SEX EDUCATION in grade Five will be implemented. Churches has divided and has different views regarding this, no wonder this Bill passed. Then a few years from now House Bill 634 will be implemented. What is House Bill 634 by the way? This is ANTI-DISCRIMINATION benefited for LGBT “Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-gender” people. This is a bill that is advocated by this group LAGABLAB “Lesbian and Gay Legislative Advocacy Network (LAGABLAB-Pilipinas)”. They does not only claim for equal human treatment but also equal right to be officiated in Church wedding as part of ANTI-DISCRIMINATION. Therefore, few years from now, priest and pastors does not only marry Adam and Eve, but also Adam and Steve, Peter and John and also Eve and Mary or Sarah and Rachelle, etc. For me HB 634 is violation of the Human Rights of the majority and violation between Church and States. Why I said violation of the Human Rights of the Majority? Because obviously they are on minority compared to majority population in our country. We are almost 90million today, how many ages from 1yo to 5yr old kids are gays/lesbian? How many 6 to 10 yr old gays or lesbian? How many 11 to 20 yr old gay or lesbian? How many 21 to 50 year old are gays and lesbian, how many 51 year old and above are still gay or lesbian? If the answer is 10% or less than 10% then this House Bill 634 is offending the rights of majority “90% population of the Philippines”. The House Bill is intended for ANTI-DISCRIMINATION towards LGBT but does not make sense to none LGBT, therefore this is against the will of majority. Then why approve this bill if this will conflict or compromise to the human rights of the majority? I doubt if lesbians and gays or LGBT in the Philippines will reaches to 9 to 10 million, I think they can hardly reach up to 5 million? Assuming that we have 80 million none LGBT how can this BILL help to 80 million none LGBT? I think it will benefit nothing but create discomfort in social norms and harmony and rights of the majority when it comes to cultures or worship.
House Bill 634 is conflict to Article II of Philippine constitution “Separation of Church and State”. This what I read in Wikipedia; The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines declares:The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable. (Article II, Section 6), and, No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed. No religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights. (Article III, Section 5 ).HB 634 is a law that discriminate and prohibit religious rights and freedom. To approve this bill is the government itself compromising or breaching this article because it forced to marry gays and lesbians in the church which violate the freedom of religion. Marriage is a part of Holy Matrimony in Church and it is a legal procedures of uniting 2 person in one called husband and wife or conjugation. HB 634 article 4, section D is very dangerous and offensive to religious rights, therefore this is conflict to Phil Constitution article II, Sec 6 “freedom of religion and it's practices”. Therefore if Lesbians and Gays are now crying for their rights “HUMAN RIGHTS through ANTI-DISCRIMINATION” , are they not shouting also at the same time for the cancellation of the power or disregarding of Phil Constitution Article II, sec 6 “Separation of Church and State? House Bill 634 “ANTI-DISCRIMINATION bill is conflict to “Human Rights and Separating of Church and State”. Would you agree on this?
I thank God for Rep/Bis. Abante for successfully blocking this Bill last 2006 while he was Chairperson of the Committee on Civil, Political and Human Rights. However those were temporary victory because today they “LAGABLAB” doubling their time for passing this Bill while all Christians are on silent mood toward this Bill and a few reading from now we have a new LAW HB 634. If we will not do something with this Bill, one day we will all wake up watching Gay/Lesbian wedding in our church. Once this bill passed and approve all ministers “Priest, Pastors, Mayors, etc. cannot say no once a gay member of the church or organization approaches one of this officers for officiating their wedding, because this is violation to HB 634. I think many of us Pastors and Priest would chose to be locked up in jail than doing this abomination. So think, what would you feel if your Pastor or Priest officiates Gay/Lesbian Marriage? These people are minority in our society yet they dominate every hearing sessions conducted by our congressmen, the questions is where are the Christians. It seems they don't understand PhilCons article II, sec 6.
Bagong Pag-Asa” said that only 3 organizations from Roman Catholic and He (John) representing to Bagong Pag-Asa group and nothing from Evangelical, Charismatic, Pentecostals, Baptist, Methodist and many distinct Protestant Churches attended the hearing. If there's, then it would not influence our legislator, because they are progressively pass this Bill. No wonder why, this Bill is reviving and gaining power and now trying to dominate our law makers who oppose this. I would challenge our Christian Lawyers who are gifted and anointed by God for such a time as this to defend the body of Christ into such mockery.
I will challenge also our successful businessmen to finance by all means those who advocate opposing this Bill. I would challenge all Preachers, Pastors and church members to have a proper education on awareness regarding this bill. If we need to WALK ON THE STREET to shout our rights then we'll do it. I would rather be called an “ACTIVIST for Christ” rather than a “DUMB and Worthless” Christian doing nothing. Remember, in order for Satan to win, it takes only for a Christians to do NOTHING. If you can't attend court hearing or street protest then use your money to finance other people to do in your behalf. If we will do nothing in this BILL then “LAGABLAB” will win ,I am sure of it, they will and let's expect GAY/LESBIAN WEDDING in our Church once this Bill passed. The Bible and the Body of Christ or church clearly condemned homosexuality, in fact God punished Sodom and Gomorrah for this practices. Sodom was destroyed because of Gay people in that city want to kidnap the two Angels for Sex “please read Genesis 19 on down page”. In New Testament Paul clears the issue and the reason why there is Gay and Lesbian, it is because of a wrong worship Pls. Read Romans 1 below: However, homosexuality defined in the Bible as same amount of gravity of sin as liars, greedy, drunkard and cheaters and etc. are all in one category, therefore if drunkenness is forgivable so homosexuality also. 1 Cor 6:9-11 read the verses below. Christians should do something with this “BILL”, we should wake up from our day dreaming and openly say “WE'LL, JUST TRUST GOD” and do nothing about it. It was the same faith from American Christians that now end up losing in the court and LGBT are now celebrating their victory.
We should do something that is concrete aside from trusting and praying to God because God required us action more than prayer and trust. Our simple attendance to court hearing and sending letters to the authority will give them hint that the majority is now breaking their silence. To shot up our mouth and keep quite for this BILL will give hint to the authorities that we are supporting GAY MARRIAGE, however by breaking our silence and in a simple way to re-post this article or pass this article until the government hears our voice then HB 634 will not prevail against God's people. I would challenge all youth and young professionals Christians to do something concrete. Meaning write articles, or help this advocacy promoted through out the country.
I would challenge those intellectual people “you can write a better article than mine” please do not critics my writings scholarly but instead write related article that would help educate the Body of Christ concerning House Bill 634. If we or the government approves the Gay/LESBIAN Marriage or LGBT rights “HB 634” then we are by default allowing gay/lesbian marriage on our churches. It that okay with you? Is God glorify if we allow this practices on our church? I think not! So what are we waiting for, come on let's do something for the glory of God. Disclaimer: I am not against gay rights when it comes to lifestyle or those who chose to live that way, what I am against is the issue of church marriage. I highly respect gays or lesbians, I never scorn, discriminate or insult them, I never embarrassed them, in fact I lead a few of them to Christ. Until now I'm still reaching them out. I remember when, me and Ptr. Eyriche of Makati Gospel Church reaching a gay in one of our favorite beauty shop here in Makati. We evangelized and slowly win their trust on to us and hoping that someday we will triumph on winning them to Christ. Last month he introduced me to his friends and they does not feel awkward to hear the gospel anymore. They promised to attend the church one of this day. I had a roommates before, one of them a Christian and the two are a Gays. Again we had a good relationship. I shared Christ to them, however due to lack of knowledge on mentoring them I failed to bring them to a certain level of maturity. When I was a two year old Christian I led one gay soul to God, before his death he was 1 year old Christian. So I am not against them, in fact I need also to support for them a certain rights which pertaining to equal respect and protection as human. But what I am against is the power behind House Bill 634 ANTI-DISCRIMINATION for them.

Take care and god bless :)
I have several unchurched friends and acquaintances, which include people from the LGBT sector. Since we are called to be salt of the earth, I maintain my friendly ties with them without losing my identity as a Christian.
The precis is that there are more who are like you: Bible-believing Christians who strive to make a difference in whatever way they can for the glory of JESUS and the furtherance of His kingdom.
Just my way of encouraging you and the others who are doing similar work. May the Lord bless the work of your hands and speak His favor upon you.
I applaud your conservative stand regarding this issue (re: LGBT)and your zealousness for even writing an article about your utter distaste for the house of congress on the possibility of having the gay and lesbian marriage bill passed as a law in the Philippines. I respect your views. Of course, a lot of conservative Christians around the globe holds the same view as well and they are all entitled to their own opinion, like you do. After all, that's the conservative stand.
First of all, if the bill becomes a law, then the LGBT group doesn't have to get married in the church so you don't have to worry about solemnizing one gay couple and, on the other hand, they can't force you to do it because that is your right. Right? They can do a civil marriage like a lot of Filipinos do, which is still legal in the Philippines, and not have to bother any church who are against it and they are still legally married. What can you do in that case? The bill didn't specifically say that they must be married in a church. Does it? It doesn't say, "pastor Jessie is required to do it or else." It only legalizes gay marriage and that's all.
Second, In the early days of conservatism, the evangelical-protestant churches treated lesbians and gays like a form of disease and therefore needs to get treated. Do you still believe in that view as well? However, they're human beings like you and me worthy of respect and dignity. The Bible talks a lot about self worth and dignity. why can't we give it to them? Well, you might argue, that is sinful! haven't you sinned yourself?
Third, human rights doesn't belong to the majority as you purport. It is always associated with the minority group who are being discriminated and oppressed by the dominant population. Sad to say, your article is replete with gender and sexual biases not that you're wrong but you are just filled with prejudices against people that is very different from you, in this case the LGBT. You are not being courageous just because you wrote an article against the LGBT for a fact that majority of people are against it and would agree with your views. Kumbaga marami kang kakampi. You are silly, that's what you are.
If as you claim, the church and state are two distinct entities and must be separate, then why do you meddle with the affairs of the state by writing articles against the decision of the state? aren't you suppose to keep your mouth shut because that is the decision of the state?
or because it does not go well with you that's why you are against it.
Man. let us be matured in the way we treat people. If you ask me for my stand, I would tell you right affront, let the congress decide. Every Filipino, including Filipino LGBT's are protected by the Philippine Constitution and we need to stand by it.
Did Jesus die only for the heterosexual? didn't he die for them as well?

The bill is very clear against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or deny deny these people access to public service, join military service or get expelled in school or any institution just because they are gays and lesbians, etc....the church is not even mentioned in there and so much more gay marriage as you claim...why the fuss?
I think you are very much confused. The first half of your article talks about the bible's condemnation of homosexuals, i.e. Romans 1, the Story of Sodom, about disruptions in social norms...the second half talks about your love for them because you "highly respect gays or lesbians, I never scorn, discriminate or insult them, I never embarrassed them..." how can you reconcile your doctrine of condemnation with your disclaimer?
Man, if we truly desire to reach this population, allow God to move through you in a loving and respectful way. He doesn't need anybody to fight for HIS right for after all He is God. He is in control, He is sovereign. The bible is not about homosexuality or criminality it is about God.
Let the secular state decide on its own for they are responsible to the greater power that be__God himself. Your responsibility is to share His grace and love. We are not gonna go out there to condemn anybody because of a certain bill...that's not our job...that is God's job.
I suggest that you write stories about the transforming power of God in the lives of men and women in the Phil ... I think that's more an easy read for everyone.
The first one is GRACE. Grace is showing compassion and kindness to an offender. It is the willingness to cancel someone else's "debts" and bestowing favor even to them who don't deserve it. Love finds its most practical expression in grace. Grace holds no grudges, withholds judgment, records no wrongs and finds no fault.
Secondly, JUSTICE. Justice is treating everyone fairly and squarely. However, to treat everyone fairly does not mean that we should treat everyone the same. Justice means equality not only in the legal courts but in all aspects of life. It means that the poor as well as the rich without regard to gender, religion, sexuality, race and color deserves equal rights and opportunities.
Lastly FREEDOM. Freedom is being able to do what you want to do without violating someone else's rights and privileges. Freedom includes the right to think, speak and act without fear of being ridiculed or condemned by others. It must include the right to practice religion, choosing to be who you want to be, and choosing to do what you want to do and not what other people wants you to do.
I rest my case.
